Granada with its wonderful climate, with over 300 sunny days per year and moderate temperatures throughout most of the year, make it the perfect place for training camps and cycling holidays.

The mountainous area features varied landscapes and presents the possibility of riding routes with varying levels of difficulty. From easy climbs to the longest and toughest climb in Spain, the Pico de Veleta. Climbing until 3384m over the sea level, with an elevation gain of +2700m in its length of 42km.

The Pico Veleta is the toughest climb in Spain and also the highest paved road in Europe. The Pico Veleta is more than an Hors Catégorie (HC) rated climb. It is longer and tougher than Tourmalet, Alpe d’Huez or Ventoux.

There are many ways to climb up to Veleta. It’s possible to do a route connecting different climbs for advanced level of cyclists or just doing a single climb day.

The paved road ends and the last km is a mountain bike road to reach the summit. Depending the snow of the year we can reach the summit approximately from late May to October.

Cycling the roof of Europe is a tough challenge but is an unforgettable experience too. The beauty of its views make that climb something magic.

Whether it’s a quick jaunt over low mountain passes or long days in the saddle spent laboring over bigger hills. We have designed cycling tours for every challenge. Each cycling tour is meticulously customized for your level of riding, time constraints and fitness goals.

By the way, every year lots of pro cycling teams choose our local, quiet roads and mountains for training. They stay at the CAR Sierra Nevada (High Altitude Training Center) at 2320m over the sea level. They use the area as a base to best prepare for achieving major goals during the professional season – including everything from spring classics to the grand tours. In Granada it’s easy to end up sharing the roads of our cycling tours with the pros during their training sessions. In addition we climb the same mountain passes featured in the Vuelta España and Ruta del Sol – Vuelta a Andalucía.

It’s simple to reach Granada via our two nearest airports. Our local airport is in Granada proper, and the other, Malaga Airport, is an hour’s drive away from Granada.
